Description

Otia. Pontic “Doughnut”

“Otia, mum, I want Otia”
I was asking for them in the same way as other kids ask for doughnuts.
A tasteful sweet, traditionally for weddings and other religious events. But I wanted it every possible moment!

The origin of the name?

For everyone asking, it’s not difficult for the Greeks to understand. “Otia” is very similar sounding with the word for ears in Greek.
Just check the photo. Don’t the look like ears?
Serving Tips
In our production facility we produce and pack otia and put them in the freezer. So you skip the production phase. When in need for a sweet (either for you or if you hear the children ask), you just fry them in olive oil, and then you eat it.
And to share a secret: Although they are fried, they are light, as they do not absorb much oil.
So eat more than one, and I hope the second would be in my name.
They can be served either hot or cold and with icing sugar or nutella or honey on top. Even with nothing on top they are delicious. I’m sure you’ll love them as I do.
